Large crowds descended on The Mall outside Buckingham Palace on Wednesday 1 June, to witness the final preparations for the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee celebrations.

Thursday 2 and Friday 3 June are both public holidays. The Spring Bank Holiday on Thursday would normally fall on the final Monday in May but has been moved a few days to join up with this year's additional Platinum Jubilee public holiday, on Friday.

With one day to go until the events marking the Queen's 70 years on the throne, people came to witness the preparations and enjoy the atmosphere outside Buckingham Palace, even though the weather was cooler than typical for this time of year.

Many members of the media were also there, setting up in preparation for the next day's events.
