A massive fire broke out in a public market causing 300,000 dollars worth of damage.

The blaze tore through at least 90 per cent of the Ipil Town market in Zamboanga Sibugay province on June 10 evening, the local fire department said, citing 'electricity overload' as one of the potential causes of the fire.

Footage shows the inferno razing stalls used to sell vegetables, fish, and dry goods in the 1,350-sqm. market complex at around 9:45 pm local time. An adjoining canteen and coffee shop were also burnt down.

Percival Alar, acting municipal fire marshal of the Ipil Municipal Fire Station, said: 'It's a relief that during the incident nobody was reported injured or was hurt. Everybody was safe, including our firemen who responded to the fire call.'

The fire was put out shortly before midnight, he added.

Ipil Mayor Anamel Olegario said he will temporarily allow the affected vendors to continue selling their products inside the burnt-down complex while a new building is being built.
