Criminal barristers across the UK began strike action this morning in a dispute over legal aid fees (June 27).

In footage filmed outside the Old Bailey in the City of London, barristers, solicitors and legal staff assembled said more needed to be done by the government who have neglected the judicial system. Junior criminal barristers earn a median of £12,200 a year after deductions in the first three years of practice.

Speakers included young rising legal star Alejandra Llorente Tascon, who spoke that the profession 'was on its knees', the Criminal Bar Association (CBA) chair - Jo Sidhu QC and CBA secretary Lucy Wibberley.
