Hong Kong pro-democracy protesters rally in London 25 years after British colony was handed back to China

The Hong Kong disapora in London held a rally and march beginning at Piccadilly Circus and ending at the territory's Economic & Trade Office, marking the 25th anniversary of the Chinese handover, formally ending British rule in 1997 (July 1).

Protesters paid tribute to Leung Kin Fai who died in a case of attack-suicide in Hong Kong in 2021 - a year after the national security law was introduced, stiffling dissent after growing protests and unrest.

Supporters suggest the man who stabbed a police officer, and then himself, acted out of despair and desperation.

Those gathered carried placards, colonial-era, pro-democracy and a new style navy and white design of flag, whilst they sang 'Glory to Hong Kong', the de facto anthem of the protest movement.
