One million people attended the Ratha Yatra in Puri, India on July 1, locals say. This Hindu festival takes place every year and is one of the country's biggest chariot events.

Devotees from all over the world flocked to the coastal town of Puri to see the event, and enjoy the vibrant colors, devotional songs, and the music of drums, sounding plates of bell metal, and cymbals.

The Puri Jagannath Rath Yatra, which is considered one of India's biggest chariot festivals begins on July 1st this year. Every year, millions of devotees throng the coastal town of Puri to catch the glimpse of deities re-embodied on chariots on the occasion of Rath Yatra, marking the largest-ever religious congregation in Odisha.

During the annual Jagannath Puri Rath Yatra, devotees from all across the world throng Puri with an earnest desire to help pull the Lord's chariots. They consider this an auspicious act. The huge processions accompanying the chariots play devotional songs with drums, sounding plates of bell metal, cymbals, etc.

A Tight security ring was thrown and elaborate measures were made by the district administration and Odisha police to ensure smooth conduct of the festival.
