Just after 2300hrs a brush fire was reported on route 54 in the area of SOS Metals. Local police and fire chief were quick to arrive and confirm a big scrap pile burning instead of brush fire.
Police quickly cut the gate lock for access while Engine 21 arrived as the first engine in with
Engine 25 quickly behind them. Engine 21 dropped a LDH line and proceeded up to the scrap pile while engine 25 picking up the line than reverse laying LDH out to Route 54 where incoming tankers set up a portaponds. Truck 2 was quickly added to assignment to be used for aerial master stream. Engine 2 along with tankers from Northumberland, Schuylkill and Columbia counties were also added to help with extinguishment of the blaze due to no hydrants in the area.
A fill station for the tankers was set up by Engine 2 at the farmers market at the interior 54 & 61. One firefighter reportedly suffered a minor injury at the fill site but declined treatment after being evaluated by EMS. Crews operated until just after 3am when the box was placed in service.
