A visitor was injured when a home's balcony collapsed in Thailand.

Grace Nimsakorn, 18, had stopped by her friend's house in Nonthaburi province to take care of an errand on July 6. While they were about to hail a cab the property's second-storey balcony suddenly collapsed, burying Grace under a large slab of cement. A car parked under it was also damaged.

Rescuers unearthed Grace from the rubble and rushed her to the Mongkutwattana Hospital for her leg injuries. She is now safe, paramedics said.

Homeowner Yosang Sap-ruenrom, 49, said: ‘I felt really sorry for my daughter's friend that she was injured because of this accident.'

She added that the balcony was constructed 10 years ago to create a makeshift garage in front of the house. There were allegedly no signs that it was about to collapse, she said.

Officials said the accident was likely caused by steel beams that failed to support the weight of the balcony's concrete. A more thorough investigation is underway.

Yosang said she will contact the insurance company to take care of the property damage, as well as Grace's hospital expenses.
