A young elephant enjoyed splashing in a muddy pond at a Thai wildlife sanctuary.

Footage shows the six-year-old male jumbo named Nong plunging up and down the water in Chaiyaphum province's Tabo-Huay Yai Wildlife Sanctuary on July 12.

The creature bathed in the muddy water for at least ten minutes before disappearing back to the forest.

Local officer Seksan Lompang said: ‘Nong is at the age where he leaves his herd for a few hours a day. When he turns 15, he will leave his herd to live alone.'

Adult Asian elephant males are mostly solitary but they sometimes form small, temporary groups to help each other forage for crops in the forest.
