Forestry officials and kind-hearted locals rescued a bear from a tree where it had got itself tangled in wire, in south-west India on 13 July.

The sweet-toothed bear belied its small size with loud roars as it hung upside-down from the wires, which had been put there precisely to stop greedy grizzlies from helping themselves to the fruit.

The owner of the land, Siddaraju, and other villagers informed forest officials of the bear's predicament and they rescued the bear, after giving it a mild sedative. It was then released back into the wild.

The incident happened in Krunkoti village, Koratagere taluk, Tumkur district, Karnataka state, India.
