Towns and cities in the Tohoku and Hokuriku regions in Japan woke up to widespread flooding on August 4 due to torrential rains.

The record rainfall from late Wednesday night until early Thursday morning prompted special alerts for heavy rain and evacuation. The weather system is expected to last through Saturday.
