Hurricane Julia made landfall in Nicaragua on Sunday morning, October 9, bringing high winds and torrential rains.

Central American nations bordering Nicaragua such as Panama, Honduras, and Costa Rica also saw heavy rainfall as the category 1 hurricane approached from the east. Despite weakening to tropical storm status, life-threatening flash floods and mudslides were forecast across Central America and southern Mexico through Tuesday.
