Dozens of students and teachers lit candles for the victims of a the nursery massacre in Thailand.

Footage shows staff and pupils of the Suranaree University of Technology offering prayers and condolences for the deceased after a drug-crazed ex-policeman attacked the kindergarten in the town of Uthai Sawan in Nong Bua Lamphu province on October 8.

They knelt on the ground in prayer and later expressed their grief by writing messages of sympathy for the bereaved families.

Drug-addled former policeman Panya Khamrab, 34, started his murderous rampage at a childcare centre in the Uthai Sawan district. He killed at least 36 people - including 24 young children aged between two and four - and injured 12 others before turning the gun on himself.

Grieving relatives and local officials in white suits laid white roses at the entrance to the single-storey building that afternoon.

Suthit Chanhawan, Deputy Governor and Acting Governor of Nong Bua Lamphu Province, also delivered a wreath from and a bouquet from the country's royal family.
