This afternoon a major fire broke out in a Home for Mothers with Children that operated in a downtown hotel in Montevideo (Uruguay). So far there is a deceased woman, several intoxicated and two children and a woman in serious condition. The causes of the fire are still unknown, but it is known that it started on the 5th floor of the hotel, in the apartment of the deceased woman and mother of the children who are seriously burned. Hours of deep drama were experienced since there were about 92 people in the place, of which half were children. Firefighters had to rescue many of them from balconies and rooftops. Minister Lema, from the Ministry of Social Development, the agency in charge of the Home, was present at the scene.
