On Saturday 29 October polling stations across Brazil were preparing for the second round of the country's presidential election.

The vote -- between a leftist former president and a far-right incumbent -- has been described as the most important in the country’s democratic history.

Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva, popularly known as Lula, is standing against the staunchly conservative President Jair Bolsonaro, as the country struggles with high inflation, limited growth and rising poverty.

With a deep divide between the two men's ideologies and supporters, as well as threats by Bolsonaro that he may not recognise a loss, there is concern that the vote could be followed by violence.

That fear has been heightened by the increasing chance it will be a tight race.

Neither gained over 50% in first round vote earlier this month, forcing the two leading candidates into the run-off vote.

The video shows ballot boxes being transported in São Paulo, where people will also vote for their governor at the same time.
