Comic book fans dress in colourful cosplay fancy dress outfits at a convention pushing Mark Zuckerberg's pet project the 'metaverse'.

The cartoon fans wore outfits based on fictional animated characters to the 'Thailand Comic Con 2022' event at the Siam Paragon centre in the capital Bangkok on October 30.

Exhibitors from across Asia had stalls at the exhibition. There were also competitions and activities for visitors to participate in.

Organisers said this year had a special focus on NFTs and the 'metaverse'. Supporters of the geeky alternative reality hope that gamers and comic book fans will propel the metaverse into mainstream use.

However, Zuckerberg-controlled firm Meta has angered its investors by pouring tens of billions of dollars into metaverse development with no timescale of when it will could take off.

A spokesman for the Thailand Comic Con 2022 said: 'This event appealed to people interested in the metaverse who love pop culture.'
