Donald Trump supporters handed out free light sabers to back Republican candidates in Alaska ahead of the country's mid-term elections.

Followers gave away more than 20,000 brightly coloured plastic sci-fi swords in Anchorage on October 31 to rally voters for Senator candidate Kelly Tshibaka and U.S. Representative candidate Sarah Palin.

Organisers Patriot Freedom PAC said the light sabers were a fun reference to the Star Wars character Chewbacca and a play on Kelly's surname Tshibaka. Kelly, a Star Wars fan, named her first son Jedi after the hit movie series.

A spokesman said: 'Earlier this summer, Patriot Freedom PAC spent roughly 45,000 dollars designing and producing 20,000 saber swords branded with 'Vote for Kelly Tshibaka.' Despite multiple logistical setbacks, ranging from U.S. Customs audits to shipping delays, the brightly colored saber swords were delivered on October 26.

'Patriot Freedom PAC is encouraged by Kelly Tshibaka's ambition to finally force Lisa Murkowski into retirement, and continues to support her campaign for U.S. Senate, saber swords-in-hand.'
