Sir Richard Branson’s rocket company, Virgin Orbit, has filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection in the US after failing to secure the funding needed to recover from a January rocket failure.

The aircraft and support is based at Cornwall Spaceport near Newquay in Cornwall UK. The rocket will be released from the aircraft when an altitude of 35,000 ft or 10KM. The free falling rocket will then fire its liquid fuelled motor and ascend to orbit. This is the first time in the 40 year history of the jumbo jet that one will carry a rocket. The UK's Civil Aircraft Authority has yet to give the go ahead for Virgin Orbit to launch due to safety concerns.

The launch will carry payloads for both private companies and governmental agencies. The flight manifest, now completely full, includes payloads from seven global customers, a testament to the flexibility and possibilities offered through responsive launch solutions.
