November 20 2022 BRONX, New York - Thanksgiving Turkey Giveaway brought cheer to Bronx residents this Sunday afternoon. Organized by Hawk Newsom, Chivona Newsome and Volunteers with Black Opts, who gave out 600 turkeys to locals who lined up on the street.

Large U-haul pulled up to 161st street and Walton Avenue with volunteers shouting "Free Turkey Free turkey!"

"A lot of people see us fighting against oppression, fighting against police brutality, fighting against poverty, but a huge part of this fight is - spreading love in our community" said Hawk Newsom during the Turkey Giveaway.

"I grew up in this neighborhood", says Chivona Newsome, "It's about us saving each other", "If I can't make sure my neighbors have a good Thanks Giving, am I really doing social justice work?"

Since founding Black Lives Matter Greater New York in 2016, the brother-sister team of Hawk and Chivona Newsome, has led the organization and created Black O. P. T. S., an organization to provide black opportunities.
