The rain that flushed the foot of Mount Semeru on Wednesday (14/12/2022) resulted in a flood of cold lava accompanied by secondary eruptions.

The flood vibrations that occurred were recorded to reach a maximum amplitude of 30 mm.

You can see a puff of smoke coming from the remnants of the eruption rising upwards to cover the sky in the area due to the secondary eruption which leads to the Besuk Kobokan and Kali Lanang lava flows.

This secondary eruption occurred because the sediment left over from the Semeru eruption material which occurred on Sunday (4/12/2022) was then carried by the flow from the upper reaches of the river originating from Mount Semeru.

"This afternoon there were vibrations from the flood and it also rained above, resulting in cold lava that led to the visit of Kobokan and Kali Lanang," said Head of Prevention, Preparedness and Logistics BPBD Lumajang, Wawan Hadi Siswoyo when confirmed.

For this incident, Wawan conveyed that the Lumajang-Malang connecting line via Curah Kobokan, Supiturang Village, Pronojiwo District was temporarily closed.

"For the time being the route is closed, the crossing through the Kobokan waterfall is closed because there is still a lot of material and the water has not receded," he said.

Furthermore, he said there had been no reports of the impact that occurred with the secondary eruption.

In addition, he also appealed to local residents to continue to increase their vigilance and not to move along the river that originates from Mount Semeru.

"For this reason, we urge the public to remain alert to the potential dangers of Semeru's cold lava. Communities along the river and below it, continue to increase their vigilance," he appealed.
