A winter storm intensified into a bomb cyclone near the Great Lakes and continued to bring historically low temperatures and blizzard conditions to the Midwest region on Friday, December 23, hitting Christmas travelers.

Several states have declared emergencies, and travelers were advised to prepare for massive delays and cancellations at airports and extremely dangerous to impossible travel conditions on roadways leading up to the Christmas holiday.

Video filmed on the I-94 near Medina in Stutsman County, North Dakota shows blizzard conditions and low visibility on December 22 at around 4pm.

Further footage shows blizzard conditions three miles south of Ames in Story County, Iowa on December 23 at 4.30pm.
