A stranded Bryde's whale was helped back into the sea in southern Thailand.

The 39ft-long marine creature was spotted wandering near a beach in Trat province on December 23 evening.

Officers on board boats on patrol found that the adult whale was skinny and had skin abnormalities and wounds around its dorsal fin and left tail.

Footage shows the creatures guided towards the depths by officers and concerned locals.

One of the officers said: ‘The Bryde's whale was swimming around the Ao Krut bay area where villagers harvest mussels from their farms.

‘We feared that the whale might be in danger, so we worked on pushing it back.'

After more than 18 hours, the Bryde's whale was successfully pushed out from Ao Krut into a deep trough around Koh Chang.

Officials are constantly monitoring the whale as it is still swimming in the area with its thin body.

The Bryde's whale is a mammal that lives in the sea. It is a toothless whale with a slender body, smooth skin, and a small dorsal fin located toward the tail.

It has grooves under its chin that expand while feeding to make space for prey.
