A tourist was knocked over by a huge wave while posing for pictures at the beach.

Roxanne Sultan walked down the steps to sit down on the rocky part of the shore for an idyllic sunset selfie in General Santos, the Philippines, on December 29.

However, strong waves crashed into the holidaymaker, who was dragged onto the sane and flung back and forth with the current.

Footage shows the deluge towering above her and sweeping her off the steps. She was dragged and pushed again dangerously against the sharp rocks before one of the swimming locals helped her.

The tourist, who emerged unscathed, said: ‘I was serious when I sat down there. I wanted to take some photos but also reflect on my trip.

‘I thought it would be a nice moment for me to have a quiet and deep contemplation of the last year, but I was wrong.'

Roxanne was seen struggling to stand up and regain her balance after the serious wipeout until a young lad helped her.

Roxanne said she was not hurt. She added: ‘I had some scratches and bruises but not very serious.'
