A group of 10 African elephants at Vienna's Schoenbrunn Zoo received a late festive gift as they were given a Christmas tree to chomp down on.

Footage from January 10 shows the 59-foot-tall tree at Schoenbrunn Christmas Market being dismantled and transported to the zoo.

Schoenbrunn Christmas Market organiser Gabriela Schmidle said in a statement: "I am delighted that this long-standing tradition can be continued again this year and that the Christmas tree not only brought joy to over 1 million people during the pre-Christmas period but now also the elephants in Schoenbrunn Zoo."
