Extinction Rebellion activists carry banners and a large model whale protested outside the Business, Enterprise and Industrial Strategy (BEIS) building and marched onto Downing Street (January 15) against the proposed new oil project Rosebank which the government is due to make a decision.

The 'Stop Rosebank' campaign has estimated that the emissions resulting from oilfield, would be equivalent to the annual CO2 emissions of the world’s 28 lowest-income nations combined.

Protesters chanted 'Equinor must fail' and 'Leave it in the ground', demanding the UK government do not grant new fossil fuel licences.

Research highlighted by the Guardian also suggests that the UK will not benefit since Rishi Sunak's introduction of tax-breaks.
