Amazing footage has emerged of a 200-metre-high zip line in Colombia failing to stop, leaving a man in need of 15 stitches.

The accident, filmed on a helmet cam in Colombia at the beginning of this year, left the uploader needing 15 stitches.

The filmer later wrote online that he tried to go as fast as possible by getting into an aerodynamic position, reaching speeds of up to 80kph.

It meant the people at the end of the 200-metre-high course were unable to stop him in time, because they stop it by shaking the wires.

"As an athlete who's training for downhill ski racing, I always like to see how fast I can go on what ever contraption I may find myself on," he said.

"While visiting family, I decided to try a zip line adventure.

"This adventure involved being over 200 metres above the ground."

"I was a willing to accept the risks of going on this zip line in a third world country," he continued.

"Getting into as aerodynamic position I could get into, I managed to reach just under 80kph.

"Unfortunately, it was a little too fast for the people at the end of the zip line to stop me."

The dare devil also added that the staff at the attraction were "very helpful" and even accompanied him to the emergency room.
