Uncharacteristically cool temperatures with a strong breeze couldn't keep thousands of pirates from invading downtown Tampa, Florida.

By land and sea, the pirates spread across the city, not looting and pillaging, but eating, drinking and cheering.

The highlight of the event was the arrival of the world's only fully rigged pirate ship, the Jose Gasparilla, which landed at the convention center to seize the city.

The annual event also featured a boat parade, street parade and several music venues.

The Gasparilla Pirate Festival (often simply referred to as Gasparilla) is a large parade and a host of related community events held in Tampa, Florida almost every year since 1904.
