This rare albino wallaby became the talk of the town as visitors marvelled at its unique appearance in a zoo in northeast Thailand.

The kangaroo-like white wallaby was born on Monday February 1 at the Khon Kaen zoo.

Footage shows the young marsupial, which looks like a cross between a kangaroo and a rabbit, happily munching on snacks inside its enclosure.

Their unique appearance is due to a genetic mutation that gives them snowy fur and pink eyes and noses. Albino wallabies are incredibly rare even in Australia where they are native.

In a press conference on February 2, zoo director Narongwit Chodchoy said the creature was born from mates Sri Kaen, aged seven, and King Kaew, aged four, through the zoo's breeding program.

He said: 'This success is thanks to the employees' effort and attentiveness in taking care of the animals and supporting their behaviour.

'Tourists can visit the albino wallaby and also see other animals at the Khon Kaen Zoo from 8:30 am to 4:30 pm.'
