A solo traveller was sailing around Abacos, in the Bahamas, when they realised their anchor had gotten caught on a nearby island's power line. 

36-year-old Victoria Coy from New Orleans, is currently solo sailing and living on a sailboat in the Caribbean. 

As she was pulling up her anchor one day, she noticed a white line caught on it and realised it was a wire which was supplying the nearby islands with electricity. 

She attempted to move her boat in the hope of un-lodging the wire from the anchor, but had to do this all on her own.

Luckily Victoria’s technique worked and she was successfully able to bring up the anchor without causing any electrical issues. 

Victoria said: “As I was pulling up the anchor of my sailboat, which I sail on alone, I caught the power line to the next island, so I had to manoeuvre safely off and keep my boat safe by myself. 

“If I had to dive into the water to release the anchor, my boat would be drifting towards dangerous rocks and if I couldn’t get off the powerline, I ran the risk of drifting into a neighbouring boat behind me. 

“I only had one shot to “trip” the anchor by rolling it onto its back and dragging it out from under the power line.

“There is a ton of hurricane debris in this remote island chain. This is the second cable I snagged and being so remote made the many dangerous possible outcomes far more deadly.”
