An emotional Ukrainian woman broke down in tears as she and other protesters marked the first anniversary of the Russia-Ukraine conflict.

Speaking from a march in Bangkok, Thailand today, the woman said: 'Today is a very frustrating day. It's quite emotional. I opened my social media today and I saw how many lives, how many families have been destroyed.

'In the past year, the Ukrainians experienced the most awful things that may be even hard to imagine. Thousands of people died, they were killed. Women and children have been raped.

'A huge amount of infrastructure, homes, houses, has been distroyed. And honestly, I cannot find any words to describe how me and every single Ukrainian feels today because of this absolutely irrational, cruel, and awful war that has been brought to our land.

'And I'm incredibly grateful to every single volunteer who helped us to hold the rest of the lives of people who can at least try to live, and who helped us to fight this awful aggressor who has nothing in his mind except just to completely destroy.

'And we are really, really grateful for every country, every supporter that we have for providing us arms, humanitarian help, and for fighting for our freedom and the right to be Ukrainians.

'We are really grateful to Thailand for also supporting us in one way or another.'

A year ago, Russian President Vladimir Putin had announced a ‘special military operation' in Ukraine's Donbas region aimed at the 'demilitarisation and denazification of Ukraine.'

The invasion triggered a humanitarian crisis, with millions of Ukrainians displaced internally and across Europe, the United Nations Refugee Agency said.
