A storm that caused flares and explosions on the surface of the sun days ago caused an intense geomagnetic storm that treated skygazers in countries near the North Pole with dazzling displays of the Aurora Borealis or Northern Lights, footage filmed on February 26 shows from Kolari, Lapland, Finland.

The NOAA Space Weather Prediction Center has issued a G3 geomagnetic storm watch for Sunday night, February 26, and a G2 geomagnetic storm watch Monday night, February 27 for all of the northern United States.
