A tree with a phallus-shaped growth has become a hit with superstitious locals - who believe it will bring them good luck.

The bizarre tree sprouted a large conspicuous penis-like protrusion from its trunk in a cassava field in Nakhon Ratchasima province, northeast Thailand.

Dozens of residents, including villagers some 30 miles away, have feted the tree with various offerings like food, flowers, soda, incense, and three-coloured fabrics, believing it would bring them luck for the upcoming lottery draw.

Footage shows them worshipping the wooden 'willy' on Monday afternoon.

Locals said that a clam vendor in the Soeng Sang district had won first prize in the lottery - taking home a prize worth more than 50,000 GBP - after praying to the 'auspicious' tree.

Somporn Rittichaiwattiwong, 50, said that they had travelled from a neighbouring district to the monastery to help with construction work when they heard about the peculiar lucky tree.

Since it was close to the temple, they decided to pay it a visit in hopes they would hit the lottery jackpot.

She said: 'The shape of the tree is open to interpretation, and people can see it as resembling different things. Some see it as a head of a snake, while others think it looks like male genitalia.

'We know for sure that it's a lucky tree that will bring good things and wealth to people who respect it.'

Residents have vowed to protect the tree to ensure that it is not cut down. They have been giving offerings of red fizzy juice and wrapped a colourful ribbon around it.

Another tree with penis-shaped growths became a local sensation in Thailand's Phayao province this month.

The Chan Pha tree sprouted wooden 'penises' of various sizes and circumferences, with residents also flocking to see and touch it for good luck.

While in Indonesia in January, a large rock shaked like a male member emerged which locals began visiting to 'to improve their performance in bed'.

The bizarre stone, which has been nicknamed 'penis rock', was noticed jutting out from an islet in the Ciletuh Palabuhanratu Unesco Global Geopark area in Sukabumi Regency, West Java.
