Israeli security forces stand guard over the Al-Aqsa Mosque compound in occupied East Jerusalem on April 5.

At dawn, Israeli officers carried out a violent raid inside the building and arrested 350 people. It has been reported that the army used stun grenades and tear gas, and beat worshippers with batons and rifles.

According to Jerusalem's Islamic Waqf Department, Jewish extremists stormed Al-Asqa's courtyards this morning (April 5), after the Israeli police forcefully removed most Palestinian worshippers.

The violence comes as Muslims celebrate the holy month of Ramadan and Jews are about to celebrate Passover.

Al-Aqsa Mosque is Muslims' third holiest site, but it also holds religious value for Jews. They refer to this venue as "Temple Mount", claiming that two Jewish temples were set there in ancient times. However, Orthodox Jews believe that prayer is not allowed in the Al-Aqsa Mosque compound. Despite that, ultranationalists usually enter the building to observe Jewish holidays.

Palestinians perceive access to and use of the Al-Aqsa Mosque as a provocation and lack of respect for their cultural and religious identity.
