Flooding as the aftermath of heavy rainfalls in Sanaa, Yemen
This footage was filmed and produced 5 April 2023.
As of April 6, emergency services are still responding to the aftermath of heavy rainfall in southern, central, and western Yemen that led to flooding. The downpour resulted in devastating consequences for residents in various parts of the country.
Reports have confirmed that in Bayhan District, Shabwa Governorate, three people lost their lives after a bus was carried away by floodwaters. Additionally, a fatality occurred when floodwaters submerged a vehicle near Ahwar in southern Abyan Governorate. The number of fatalities may increase as reports indicate that at least two more individuals in southern Yemen were also swept away by floodwaters.
Furthermore, the flooding has caused significant damage to residential areas. At least 20 homes in Al-Haraziyah, Al-Uliyah, and Taiz were either damaged or submerged, leading to the evacuation of residents.
Emergency services are working tirelessly to mitigate the situation and provide aid to those affected by the flooding. The situation remains critical, and the authorities are urging residents to take all necessary precautions and to follow safety measures to avoid any further loss of life or property damage.
This video illustrates the aftermath of the heavy rainfalls in Sanaa (and Central Mountains region), Yemen.
