A teenager from northeastern India's Assam, by the name of Ankurit Karmakar, has designed a pair of 'smart shoes' which he says will help the visually impaired.

Karmakar is a student of class nine and he hails from the Karimganj district of the state. He made this on March 31, 2022.

The 'smart shoe' he designed looked just like any other pair of shoes but it had a twist. Visuals showed him wearing the shoes and walking. The right shoe of the pair has buzzers and it sets off if a person comes close to an obstacle. "If there's an obstacle in the way, the sensor in the shoe will detect it and the buzzer will give an alert. When the buzzer will ring, the visually impaired person will be able to hear it and he can become alert and act accordingly to avoid the obstacle," he said.

The teenager, who aspires to become a scientist one day, also said that he wants to make many more such things which would help make the lives of people easier.
