An excavator was used to dig free an elephant trapped in a 15-foot-deep well in Malappuram, Kerala.

Footage from April 18 filmed by Saseend shows locals inspecting the scene as the 6-year-old jumbo remained stranded in the muddy pit.

The excavator was used to dig a path out of the well that the elephant could climb and eventually escape before returning to the wild.

The wild elephant fell into the well in the field adjacent to Malappuram Etakod forest area. The elephant fell into a 15-feet deep well in the field of Karakattumanna Paikadan Razakh, Nilambur Mampat. This is a well in a rubber plantation adjacent to the forest. The elephant was brought ashore by JCB and the road was constructed. The elephant went into the forest.
Nilambur DFO Ashwin Kumar IFS responded that the wildebeest rescued from the well was not seriously injured and had gone wild. The elephant was driven into the forest by bursting firecrackers. Because the well was shallow, the elephant could be brought ashore quickly. The DFO said the elephant was rescued within three hours after learning that it had fallen into the well.
elephant appears to be six years old, was the victim of the accident. On Tuesday morning, the elephant fell into the well near the forest area. The forest guards were informed by the locals. The trunk was exposed in the well. The two rings in the well were broken with an earthmoving machine and a part of the well was knocked down to make way and the rescue was done at 4 pm.
