This skilled metalsmith builds incredible robot dugongs which he makes out of scrap metal at his workshop in Thailand.

Welder Mahmood Praipruek boosts his income by constructing the moving mechanical creatures from recycled metal and everyday items.

Using bottle caps, ropes, paper boxes, and buckets, he even created a moving robot of a dugong or 'sea cow' and her calf.

Footage shows Mahmood diligently welding a wire frame to use as a blueprint for the finished work. He then builds on the skeleton, attaching various knick knacks to make the dugong's parts before powering it with electric motors and car parts to make it move.

Each robot takes more than a month to complete.

Mahmood said: 'A resort owner wants to purchase this model for 30,000 baht to use as a decoration.

'Aside from dugongs, I can also make other animal models like elephants, sheep, goats, geckos, and carp.'

Mahmood's work costs between 200 baht (4.70 GBP) to tens of thousands of baht for larger and more complex robots.

He said: 'I've always wanted to try making these robots, but I never started until a customer asked me to make one based on the design they provided.'

He added that he also does aftersales service because he felt attached to his creations.

The metalsmith's side job earns him a sizeable income as orders poured in from different clients.

He said: 'Until now, there are more orders coming that I can't keep up. I hardly ever work my main job anymore. For those who are interested, they can visit me at my workshop.'
