This is the moment an exposed wheel rim caused a car to burst into flames and leave a trail of fire along the road.

The dramatic footage was filmed on the dashcam of a police car that was attempting to pull the vehicle over in Kenosha, Wisconsin State, USA on April 25.

After the vehicle burst into flames, the elderly driver eventually stopped the car, and officers rushed over to assist him.

Despite the huge inferno, he was found to be largely unscathed.

The Kenosha Police Department said in a statement: 'Officers observed a minivan driving with a flat tire that was emitting sparks from the wheel.

'Officers tried to stop the vehicle but the 84 year old operator did not stop. The minivan erupted in flames and became engulfed with fire.

'The minivan stopped and with selfless public service KPD officers ran towards the flames and pulled the driver to safety! Nobody sustained any major injuries.

'Thanks to the officers for their selfless service to community.'

The police did not state if the driver would be charged for failing to observe the siren and pull over.
