Power station erupts in spectacular explosion in Laos
A power station in Laos exploded and emitted bright lights visible from across the border in neighbouring Thailand.
Footage shows the facility appearing to be engulfed in flickering flames before exploding in a thundering blast across in Savannakhet province at around 10:30 PM on April 27.
A plume of smoke and more flashing lights followed the explosion, visible from across the Mekong River.
An oil-like liquid was found leaking out of the transformer in the aftermath, with a large power transmission line destroyed.
The provincial electricity authority in Savannakhet said in an online statement that officials are investigating the incident and will be conducting repairs as soon as possible. They have not given a cause for the explosion.
There were no casualties reported.
