South African tourist arrested over 'dine and dash' at strip club in Thai red-light district
A South African tourist was arrested for allegedly dining and dashing from a strip club in Thailand's red-light district.
John Paul Viljoen, 40, has been fondling women on his lap while drinking at the XS A Gogo bar along the notorious Walking Street in 'Sin City' Pattaya but reportedly refused to pay his 9,470-baht ($280) bill in the early hours of the morning.
Bouncers told local police officers that the reveller hurled insults and curses at them before crumpling his receipt and throwing it at them.
He then allegedly charged at security and tried to grab one of the guards in a chokehold. However, the scuffle backfired and John fell and struck his head on the edge of a staircase, injuring his forehead.
Despite his wounds, the stubborn tourist was said to have resisted the staff trying to help him and kept removing the bandage on his head. He eventually paid his tab after the chaos on May 11.
Pattaya police arrived at the scene to detain the alleged troublemaker past midnight. Officers said they will review CCTV footage for investigation.
Police Captain Puttarag Sonkamharn said: 'Officers arrived and just had to calm the situation to prevent anything from becoming worse. The tourists disagreed with the amount, so now we are mediating with the bar about what happened.'
