Palestinians took part in a protest to mark the 75th anniversary of the flight of 700,000 people from what is now Israel known as the "Nakba" or "catastrophe" in Gaza city on Monday, May 15.

The UN Committee on the Exercise of the Inalienable Rights of the Palestinian People will commemorate the 75th anniversary of the Nakba at the UN's Headquarters in New York on Monday.

"For the first time in the history of the UN, this anniversary will be commemorated pursuant to the mandate by the General Assembly (A/RES/77/23 of 30 November 2022)," the UN said in a statement.

The US and Israel voted against the resolution.
