This is the heart-stopping moment a wild snake slithered over to a man as he napped on the patio floor.

CCTV footage shows Pramuan, 60, lying on the floor with a pillow and enjoying an afternoon siesta at his house in Chiang Rai province in northern Thailand on May 9.

As he lay on the cool tiles, a radiated rat snake slithered over and entered the patio. The thin serpent was seen wriggling just inches next to Pramuan, its tail flicking his elbow.

Upon seeing the snake so close to him, the shocked resident was jolted awake and stumbled away from the serpent, which also seemed spooked by his sudden movements. Pramuan then used his pillow to drive it away.

Pramuan said: 'I've never had a snake so close to my head. It scared me so much I was shaking.'

The radiated rat snake, also known as a copperhead rat snake, are non-venomous, but are said to become defensive when threatened, making them difficult to catch. They are commonly found across South and Southeast Asia, including Indonesia, Malaysia, Myanmar, Thailand, and India.
