A long queue of ducks held up traffic when they marched back to their farm - taking up one side of the road.

Footage shows the smart water birds waddling across one whole lane as they appeared to follow their leader in Aurora province, the Philippines, on May 3.

The creatures had just finished feeding and ridding a local's rice fields of pests and were returning home before sunset.

Traffic along the path was undisturbed, and drivers could smoothly pass as the creatures kept on their side of the road.

Motorist Ed Sarita who was in one of the passing cars, said: ‘We were amazed to see that other side of Baler. We always thought of it as having beautiful beaches, but we didn't think there were fields here.'

Ducks are excellent pest control animals as they eat various insects, including snails and grubs, that damage crops. In neighbouring Thailand, British breed Khaki Campbell ducks are set loose in rice paddies to clean it up before planting season in a long-standing tradition called ‘ped lai thoong.'
