A flying metal sheet almost sliced into a German driver who was loading her shopping into the back of her car.

Dashcam footage shows the sharp piece of construction material being blown off a pickup truck into the side of the road where Catarina Jone pulled over to buy fruit from at a stall in Nakhon Sawan province, Thailand on April 21.

It crashed about 5ft-away from her seconds before she realised what had happened and motioned to shield her head.

Catarina, who is a dual Thai-German citizen working as a nurse, was unhurt and her vehicle was also spared from damage. However, she still hoped the driver could apologise for almost causing her danger.

She said: ‘I was parked on the side of the road and put on my emergency lights. I thought everything would be fine as I placed a bag of my favourite durian but I was wrong.

‘If the winds had blown harder or the wrong way I might have been decapitated. When I watched the dashcam video I can see it the roof was heading for my neck.'

Meanwhile, the idiotic pickup truck driver who apparently failed to secure the cargo properly was not yet identified as no one returned to check on the fallen metal sheets.

She said: 'Please be careful or cause danger to others. Let's be mindful of other people's safety.'

Thailand has one of the world's worst road safety records. Ministers have set the goal of reducing fatalities from 32.7 deaths per 100,000 people to 12 per 100,000 people by the year 2027.

However, a lack of road safety education in schools, cheap loans for cars, notoriously easy driving tests, police failures to enforce road laws as well as endemic corruption and chronic under-investment in infrastructure hamper the efforts.
