A storm chaser encountered a huge, menacing tornado that ripped through fields in Stettler, Canada, on May 31.

Footage captured by Darren Howard, known as @lightningmanAB on Twitter, shows the vast, dark column twisting.

Howard tweeted: "A seemingly benign developing thunderstorm produces a wild-looking landspout tornado."

Twitter users were left shocked by the footage. One user commented: "OMG, this is incredible."

Another said: "Looks like a missile trail."

"Wow, that doesn't even look real. Great capture," said another user.

According to Environment Canada meteorologists, the tornado was produced by a severe thunderstorm.
