In a sweet and captivating spectacle, more than 40 talented chocolatiers, chefs, and craftsmen have set sail for a remarkable chocolate boat in Spain.

This extraordinary vessel, appropriately named 'Chocolate', is an exquisite replica of an ancient whaling boat that graced the waters of Pasaia during the 16th century.

The journey to create this edible masterpiece began on April 17, with construction taking place in the vibrant city of Pasaia. Finally, on Thursday, June 1, the captivating moment arrived as 'Chocolate' was launched into the waters of the port of Pasaia, situated in the picturesque province of Gipuzkoa, within the enchanting Basque Country.

Crafted with remarkable precision and finesse, the boat boasts a remarkable length of 26 feet (8 meters). A staggering 1,700 kilograms of chocolate went into its creation, with the keel, upper part, and seats meticulously crafted from wood, adding an exquisite touch to the delectable masterpiece.

With eager anticipation, two valiant volunteer pastry chefs took charge of the boat on its maiden voyage. Displaying remarkable buoyancy and skill, 'Chocolate' glided across the port's waters, successfully completing a circuit without any untoward sinking incidents.

The visionaries behind this unique project express their hope that the chocolate boat will contribute to promoting Pasaia as a compelling tourist destination. Lorena Gomez, the president of Gozoa, and one of the driving forces behind this remarkable endeavour shared, "We wanted to create something that would make people smile. We hope that this boat will help to put Pasaia on the map as a place where people can come to enjoy chocolate and maritime history."

Local media reports confirm that officials have deemed the boat seaworthy after its triumphant debut voyage, which lasted a delightful 30 minutes. As an extra precaution, two wooden boats were stationed nearby, ready to lend assistance in case of any unexpected challenges.

This endeavour is not the first time Spain has witnessed the construction of unconventional boats. In 2017, a team of ingenious engineers crafted a boat entirely from recycled plastic bottles. Named 'Plasticus Maritimus', this groundbreaking creation embarked on a successful voyage from Barcelona to Valencia, leaving an indelible mark on Spain's maritime landscape.
