Deadly blaze ravages Rome, leaving 1 fatality and dozens homeless
Tragedy struck Rome as a deadly blaze engulfed a building, claiming the lives of several individuals. Italian news agency Ansa reported that the victims tragically succumbed to smoke inhalation, while many others suffered from both burns and smoke-related injuries.
The video was filmed in Colli Aniene last Friday (June 2). Heavy smoke rose into the air from a building under renovation.
Authorities swiftly initiated an investigation into the cause of the fire, with the local prosecutor personally visiting the scene. According to the provincial commander of the fire brigade, Alessandro Paola, the origin of the fire remains undetermined at this time.
However, he confirmed that the flames rapidly consumed the scaffolding surrounding the building, which was undergoing renovation work.
Preliminary reports indicated that the renovation project involved the installation of thermal cladding and roof panels, as reported by La Repubblica. The exact sequence of events leading to the fire is yet to be determined, and the investigation is ongoing.
The devastating incident has left approximately 100 residents homeless, adding further to the tragedy. To provide immediate shelter, tents have been set up for the displaced individuals. Meanwhile, safety inspections are being conducted on the building's apartments. Only after the completion of these inspections will authorities be able to determine whether residents can return to their homes.
