Fighter jets that scrambled to respond to an unresponsive small plane which violated the airspace over the Washington DC area caused a sonic boom on Sunday, June 4.
The Cessna carrying four people including one pilot later crashed over mountainous terrain in southwest Virginia. The plane had taken off from Elizabethton, Tennessee and was bound for Long Island’s MacArthur Airport but headed back toward the D.C. area after reaching Long Island, according to reports. No survivors were found at the crash site.

Social media users shared their videos that caught the sonic boom which was heard in Washington and parts of Virginia and Maryland.

In this security cam clip, the owner said that the fish in the pond seemingly reacted to the sonic boom.
