A wife spent three weeks painstakingly repairing her husband's favourite tatty trainers.

Derrick Braun, 33, wore the iPath sneakers through college, before his wedding day, and to go to the hospital when his first child was born.

He couldn't bear to part with them as they held such fond memories - even when the soles wore through and they were retired four years ago.

The shoe manufacturer stopped selling them so he couldn't replace them, but wife Jessica came up with a plan.

Jessica, a seamstress, spent three weeks repairing and restoring the shoes until they looked box-fresh.

Grateful Derrick from Bearsville, New York, fought back tears when she presented him with the shoes.

Satisfying videos document the entire process.

Jessica, who runs sewing and upcycling company Sewn Anew, said: "I love a challenge so I went ahead and started the project."

"I really enjoyed it - I couldn't wait to go to bed so I could get up and continue working on the shoes."

"A lot of times I got up at three or four in the morning so I could get work done while the kids were asleep!"

"I was tough because you never know what something will look like until the end - but I've learnt you have to trust the process!"

"When he saw the shoes, he had to fight back years."

"It had always been a running joke in his family that he would never get rid of them - they told him to do it years ago."

"Now they look like brand new shoes that he can wear again."

Derrick got the skate shoes in 2008, around the time he finished high school.

He wore them throughout college while working at a farm, leaving them in a sorry state.
