Indian muslims offer 'namaz' on the occasion of 'Eid al-Adha' festival, at the Idgah in Beawar city of Rajasthan state in India on Thursday, June 29, 2023.

Eid ul-Adha, also known as Bakra Eid, Bakrid, Eid al-Adha, Eid Qurban, or Qurban Bayarami, is observed as a commemoration of Prophet Ibrahim's unwavering devotion to Allah. Celebrated in the month of Zul Hijjah/Dhu al-Hijjah, which is the 12th month of the Islamic or lunar calendar, Bakra Eid is fervently celebrated by the Muslim community worldwide.

The holiday commemorates the prophet Ibrahim's willingness to sacrifice his son Ismail at God's request. Muslims traditionally slaughter goat, sheep and cattle, distribute part of the meat to the needy, friends, relatives and eat the rest.
