STORYLINE:

The China Petrochemical Corporation (Sinopec Group) said on Friday that it completed the construction of a 20,000 tonne-per-year green hydrogen plant in northwest China's Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region.
   
The project sets an example for the refiners to realize carbon emission reduction by tapping the potential of green hydrogen on a large scale.

The project in Kuqa City started in March 2022.

"The project has realized the whole process from production to utilization of green hydrogen, including photovoltaic power generation, green power transmission, green hydrogen production, hydrogen storage, hydrogen transport, and green hydrogen refining. It will produce 20,000 tonnes of green hydrogen at full capacity, which can replace fossil energy such as natural gas to produce hydrogen and reduce carbon dioxide emissions by 485,000 tonnes per year."
 
The green hydrogen is directly produced by renewable energy sources such as solar and wind energy, and basically produces no carbon dioxide emission in the process.
